Admittedely this is leaving the topic of food traceability very obviously towards clothes but since I am finding the topic equally interesting I decided still to pick up on the very intersting article from the Swiss non-profit organisation “Public Eye” which you can find here

“Public Eye” searched the supply chain from Inditex, one of the biggest clothing companies in the world with it’s famous brand “ZARA“. According to their research a Turkish manufacturer earns approx 1.77 CHF (=1.60 Euro) on a Hoodie. At their plant the employees earn a third of the minimum wage which would be in stark contrast to their Code of Conduct.
Ironically a Hoodie with the text “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” is then divived into the different prices Initex supposedly pays to the different suppliers throughout the supply chain.

If the article is to be believed Inditex also has a strong price discrimination per country so that the same hoodie is sold at 25.95 € in Spain, 29.95 € in Germany and France and 45.90 CHF (=41.70 €). Of course they are different costs of retail per country but the difference seems big taking the cost structure into consideration.
